PENAL COLONY NINE: BOOK EIGHT
The legend of ‘Penal Colony Nine’ consists of 9 separate books of which this is the penultimate.
The Penal Colonies are based on the old Chinese system of Laogai camps where prisoners must be “utilized as productive forces, with submissiveness as the prerequisite. The system's fundamental policy is Hard Labour as a means, while Thought Reform is the aim”.
So far we have glimpsed what it’s like to arrive on the island as a prisoner (‘Book One’), to work in one of its factories (‘Book Two’), to host visitors to its Sex Resort (‘Book Three’), to toil on its Farm (‘Book Four’), to use its primitive facilities (‘Book Five’), to be subject to the whims of individual guards (‘Book Six’) and to be the entertainment at its famous Pillory Parties (‘Book Seven’).
In Books Seven and Eight we not only learn more about life on Penal Colony Nine, but we get an insight into the State Orphanage system on the mainland, where some of the adult offspring of prisoners are ‘repurposed’. The heiress of Andrew and Amy Carrington is one such example. Miranda is housed in State Orphanage 17 where she is being prepared for a less privileged life than her family previously anticipated.

“An Iron Fist inside a Velvet Glove” is an idiom attributed to Napoleon, who coined it to describe the most effective way to treat citizens; appear unassuming and even gentle on the surface but be prepared to use brutal force where necessary.
Velvetglove is truly a gentle soul but with a hidden side that is expressed in BDSM fiction. She has been writing erotica since 2005 but only recently began making stories available commercially. As a writer she identifies as a switch-bitch; ie. as both dominant and submissive, female and male, romantic and merciless.
Stories range from dark and psychologically cruel novels (‘Velvetglove’) to female-dominant / male-submissive unconventional romances (‘Velma Glover’) to twist-in-the-tale short stories, aimed at female-submissive readers in particular ('VG’).
In real life, she's an ordinary chap with a family, a dog and a mortgage.
